Gyyok never knew his parents. He was taken in by a militia and raised in a military barracks, where he underwent rigorous martial training from a young age. His extraordinary strength and physical toughness soon set him apart from his mostly human comrades, who nicknamed him "Rock-head" (a nickname he never appreciated). But his beliefs were shaken when, during a mission, he had to choose to defend a righteous cause instead of obeying orders. Banished for insubordination after this event, he was nevertheless allowed to keep his equipment—due to his exemplary attitude during his years of service.
Deeply good-natured, Gyyok decided to follow his heart, despite the strict framework in which he grew up. According to him, the Law is too rigid to allow Good to fully flourish: it must therefore be circumvented if necessary. Contrary to his warrior-like build and a certain ingenuity due to his age, he's actually well-educated. An avid reader, he studied many of the books available in his past barracks, "borrowing" a few copies (which he was the only one to consult anyway) before his departure. Perhaps due to his origins, he feels a particular affinity with Water and Earth, which prompted him to learn the languages related to these elements. Gyyok sees this turning point in his life as an opportunity to accomplish good deeds for those around him, satisfy his curiosity, and strengthen his empathy with nature.
